Admissions & Examinations
Admission Qualification:
Any candidate who possesses the following
qualifications can apply for CITS in the relevant trade.
a. Academic qualification:
A pass in Matriculation or equivalent.
b. Technical
Qualification:

A pass in National Trade
Certificate(NTC) (or)
·
A pass in National Apprenticeship
Certificate(NAC) (or)
·
A pass in Degree or Diploma in relevant
branch of Engineering in the concerned trade.
c. Age Limit:
There is no upper age limit.
MODE OF ADMISSION:
It has been decided by competent authority that admission in CITS Shall
be done through Common Entrance Test(CET) conducted by DGE&T, New Delhi with
effective from August 2014. Candidates seeking admission in CITS have to appear
for Common Entrance Test to be held generally in the month of June every year
as per the notifications. Trainees will be admitted in DGET field Institutes,
such as CTI, Chennai based upon their rank through Central counseling.
Advertisement for Admission to Craft Instructor Training
course shall be given in ‘Employment News’ and other leading daily newspapers
generally in the month of May of every year for training session commencing
from August every year.
Candidates seeking
admission shall apply in the
application format which can be downloaded from www.dget.gov.in.
Filled in
applications should reach Shram shakthi Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi as per the
notification given by DGE&T, New Delhi.
RESERVATIONS IN ADMISSION
1. 25% Seats will be reserved to Candidates deputed by the
Directorates of State/ Union territories as per the prior request from the
State directorates.
2. Remaining vacant seats will be filled by private candidates and
Candidates sponsored from Pvt ITI based on merit only.
3. Central Reservation policy will be followed for
SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex-SM.
4. 30% Reservation for women candidates

HOSTEL FACILITIES & FEES.:
Limited Hostel Accommodation is
available on first come first serve basis at nominal service charges as given
in the Table mentioned below.
Mess facility is also available on payment basis. Cooking inside hostel rooms
is strictly prohibited. In case of non availability of hostel, candidates have
to make their own arrangements. Limited hostel facility for Women is also
available separately.

EXAMINATION:
Only those candidates who fulfill the minimum
requirement of 60% in sessional marks and 80% attendance in each semester will
be permitted to appear for the final trade test.
Candidates with Diploma/ Degree qualification minimum
three years teaching experience can have option of appearing directly in
semester- I exam. However they have to attend regular training classes for
Semester- II.
60% marks in each
subject is essential for a pass.
CERTIFICATE:
Successful trainees are awarded NATIONAL
CRAFT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATE by the National Council for
Vocational Training, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India.
Course structure & Training schedule
COURSE STRUCTURE
The Craft Instructor Training Course
has been restructured as semester pattern with effective from August 2014 with
two semesters in one year duration.
The course
structure of Craft Instructor Training programme is as follows:
Engineering
Trades:
Semester -I:Trade Technology-I and
Engg Technology - 6

Semester-II:Trade Technology –II and
Training Methodology - 6 months
Non-Engineering
Trades:
Semester -I: Trade Skill -I and Vocational
Calculation & Science - 6 months
Semester -II: Trade Skill -II and
Training Methodology -

Course Contents:
Trade Technology - I and
Trade Skill- I
This subject is trade specific and covers
basic components of the trade skills and theory.
Trade Technology –II and
Trade Skill-II
This subject is also trade
specific and comprises advanced components of the trade skills.
Engineering
Technology:
For Engineering Trades this Module consists of Engineering
Drawing and Workshop calculation & Science Subjects. The Draughtsman (Civil)
trade consists of Workshop Science & Workshop Calculation.
For Non-Engineering trades, this Module consists of Vocational
Calculation and Science.
Training Methodology:
This Module consists Principles of teaching, learning
psychology, Workshop administration, Motivation, Use of computers and
audio-visual aids in teaching, preparation of lesson plan, demo plan, written
instructional materials etc.

Hostel facilities
HOSTEL:
A spacious hostel
comprising of 125 rooms with double bed accommodation is available for the
trainees. Moderate amenities like play area with sports goods, reading rooms,
television room, hygienic drinking water facilities are provided for the
inmates. A nominal fee is charged as service charges. Mess facilities are
available and compulsory for all inmates of the hostel. Guest rooms with
moderate facilities are also available for working and retired staff of
DGE&T.
LADIES HOSTEL:
For women trainees,
a temporary arrangement of hostel facility has been made in the CTI quarters at
CTI Campus. A separate hostel facility is under proposal.

About us
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Central Training Institute for
Instructors was established in November, 1962 under the aegis of National
Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), DGE&T, Ministry of Labour and Employment,
Govt. of India, New Delhi with the
assistance of ILO to train Vocational Instructors for Industrial Training
Institutes/Centres. Subsequently Model
Training Institute was also created in February 1965 to enable instructor
trainees to have practice teaching.
The Institute is located at Guindy,
in the heart of Chennai city, adjacent to GST Road, Guindy Industrial Estate
and opposite to Guindy railway station.
The institute is 5 kms from the Chennai Airport and well connected by
Road and Rail from other parts of the country.
